How to Get to Kelingking Beach, Nusa Penida
Since the beach is located on Nusa Penida Island, which is separate from Bali, you’ll need to take a fast boat or ferry to cross.
To reach Kelingking Beach, you’ll need to take a fast boat from Sanur Beach, Nusa Lembongan, or Padang Bai.
If departing from Padang Bai Harbor, you can cross by ferry.

If you take the ferry, you can bring your motorbike or car.
For fast boat crossings to Nusa Penida, you’ll usually land at Toya Pakeh Harbor, and if you take the ferry, you’ll land at Buyuk Harbor.
From there, you can drive a motorbike or rent a car to reach Kelingking Beach.
The drive from the harbor to the beach takes about 45 minutes to an hour, depending on traffic.
But generally, the roads in Nusa Penida are not crowded, and it’s quite peaceful.
The beach is located within the administrative area of Bunga Mekar Village, Karangdawa, Nusa Penida.
It’s important to note that motorbikes or cars can only reach the beach’s parking area.
Once you arrive at the parking area, you’ll need to walk about 30 minutes down the hill.
Yes, it requires some effort as you’ll need to descend a steep hill with a slope of up to 70 degrees.
After descending the hill, which has wooden railings, you’ll finally reach Kelingking Beach.
There’s a Manta Point Nearby
If you’re lucky, you can dive with manta rays nearby, at Manta Point.
Manta Point, located near the beach, is where you can swim with manta rays.
You might be able to see these majestic creatures if you’re fortunate.
You might even swim with dozens of manta rays gathering at Manta Point.
But, it’s a matter of luck as you might not always encounter them.

Here are some important tips that might be useful before you visit this tourist spot in Nusa Penida:
- Prepare your physical condition and stamina, and know your limits. The path down to the beach is quite steep and challenging. Make sure to wear appropriate footwear. Be careful, as it could be difficult to get help if you fall. Also, note that the nearest hospital is far from here.
- Make sure to use sunscreen, as the weather in Nusa Penida can be very hot.
- The best time to visit this beach is in the morning until just before noon, as the temperature at Kelingking Beach isn’t too hot during these hours. However, if you want to enjoy the sunset, visit in the late afternoon.

Like other beaches in Bali, here are some activities you can enjoy:
- Taking photos with the beautiful beach as a backdrop. This is the most popular activity for tourists, especially for those who don’t want to walk all the way down to the beach.
- Relaxing at the small warung (local cafe) on the hill while enjoying the fresh sea breeze. If it’s too hot, it’s best to take a break at one of the warungs nearby. You can buy a fresh young coconut and support the local economy.
- Watching the sunset at Kelingking Beach. If the weather is good, you might witness a stunning sunset at this Nusa Penida beach. Interested?
- Going down to the beach below the hill and swimming. If the weather is nice, the beach below is very inviting. The sand looks white and smooth, and the waves are perfect for playing. But keep in mind that you’ll have to walk down the hill to reach the beach. Going down is easy, but climbing back up takes some effort. So make sure to bring enough drinking water and maintain your physical strength and stamina.
